When Joe Hortiz called Tre Harris for the draft, he told Tre he was impressed that he ran the 40 even though he was recovering from a repaired sports hernia. It showed he was a competitor. I couldn't agree more. It annoys me when healthy skill position players don't run the 40. To me, they come across as wimps. I'd use the P-word but I know one of your kids might be listening. If you're an actual competitor, you would want to run the 40. But if you're afraid to run the 40 because you might not be the fastest, or your agent told you not to because your draft stock might fall, then you don't have the balls to be among the best. Malik Neighbors ran a 40 and Marvin Harrison Jr. didn't. To me that showed itself in the season. One turned out to be a true competitor and the other struggled his first year. Ashton Jeanty didn't run a 40 but Omarian Hampton did. Omarian could have skipped the 40 because he was clearly established as the 2nd best running back but he still chose to run it. So if Omarian turns out to be a better running back, I for one am going to look back on the 40 and say one was man enough to run it and the other wimped out. What do you think? Is it a red flag when a healthy skill position player doesn't run a 40 yard dash? Or am I making too much out of it?
